  • Reports on Coinbase app flaws flooded the internet.
  • CEO Armstrong tweeted to address the concerns.
  • The CEO says remediations are underway.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong took to Twitter on August 13 and acknowledged that the ongoing OnchainSummer campaign had revealed extensive UX glitches in the Coinbase app for dApps, NFTs, and L2s.

In the tweet, Armstrong underscored the importance of giving users a first-class experience and noted that the OnchainSummer campaign provides a great impetus for the Coinbase team to learn from user pain points first-hand and remediate them accordingly.

One thing #OnchainSummer is exposing is just how broken our UX is in the main Coinbase app for NFTs, Dapps, and L2s today. Sorry to say, but true.
If we face truth, we can get motivated to improve it. These need to be first class experiences, and #OnchainSummer is a great impetus…

The Broken UX

Users shared their concerns and frustrations with the app’s UX under Armstrong’s tweet. One glitch that attracted the CEO’s response involved an Twitter user named @harjtaggar, who complained about an unreliable mobile wallet-chrome extension connection, which Armstrong depicted as more persistent than expected.

Connection with the mobile app to approve transactions can still be a bit funky. I tried a couple of times without getting a mobile notification to approve, then logged out and back in to the wallet chrome extension and it worked

Another X user by the name @0xRacerAlt also quoted Armstrong’s tweet and opined that the Coinbase team could solve one of the biggest UX challenges by implementing a credit card on-ramp with a quick settlement that doesn’t require users to set up a separate account.

In response to the growing concerns from the community, the Coinbase CEO urged users facing issues with the app to highlight their exact pain points in the comment section, pledging to remediate them with “rapid updates” in the next two weeks.

Although Coinbase has been spotlighted for its app UX problems, its other ventures, such as Base, are sailing much more smoothly.

Coinbase “Base Day One” Was a Success

Coinbase’s “ Base Day One ” was generally successful. Besides launching with over 100 decentralized applications and crypto industry service providers in the Base mainnet, the event saw daily users on the Coinbase incubation network surpass 136,000, higher than Optimism’s 114,700 users.
