A Web3 security firm announced the successful recovery of 36 Bored Ape Yacht Club ( BAYC ) and 18 Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFTs, following a coordinated effort by their team working overtime over the weekend.

The recent incident has prompted inquiries from concerned individuals seeking actionable security tips to safeguard their digital assets.

Complex Structure to Keep NFTs Safe from Hackers

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Boring Security acknowledged the complexity of self-custody in decentralized finance.

They emphasized that while Ethereum (ETH) developers have made strides in creating user-friendly abstraction layers, the intricacies of managing one’s digital assets remain challenging.

“As we finish up getting these apes back to their rightful owners, I just want to give a huge shoutout to the team for working overtime this weekend to come together on this.”

The post stressed the ongoing importance of understanding the underlying mechanisms of web3, despite the anticipation of improved user interfaces in the coming years.

The firm, having partnered with over 80 NFT projects in the last 18 months, advocates for a culture of security in web3 through free, instructor-led training.

Boring Security Recommends Ongoing Security Training to Combat NFT Hackers

Community leaders were encouraged to contribute to this security culture by implementing measures .

These include providing whitelists for security-educated individuals. Furthermore, offering security modules as prerequisites for community access, adopting technical primitives, and training moderators to be security champions.

To incentivize participation in security education, the firm suggested hosting special Proof of Attendance Protocol ( POAP ) events. Additionally, offering bonuses to those completing classes or security-related activities.

The post further highlighted the mutual interest of communities in prioritizing security . They cited empirical evidence supporting the benefits.

Meanwhile, Boring Security invited community leaders to engage in collaborative efforts by reaching out via direct messages to share insights or seek guidance on enhancing and safeguarding their communities.
