FTC plans to review Microsoft, Amazon and Google's investments in OpenAI and Anthropic
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has launched an investigation into the billions of dollars invested by Microsoft, Amazon, and Google in OpenAI and Anthropic. The report states that these transactions have enabled large companies to establish strong connections with smaller competitors while avoiding most government scrutiny. FTC has stated that it will require Microsoft, OpenAI, Amazon, Google, and Anthropic to describe their influence on partners and how they make joint decisions. They will be required to provide any internal documents that may reveal these transactions and their potential impact on competition. FTC Chairman Lina Khan said the study will reveal the investments and partnerships pursued by dominant companies and whether there is a risk of distorting innovation and disrupting fair competition. These companies reportedly have 45 days to respond to the FTC.
