FBI: Cryptocurrency-related investment fraud to increase 53% in 2023
Based on the latest Internet crime report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), cryptocurrency fraud is on the rise and is expected to increase by 53% compared to the previous year by 2023. The report states: "Investment fraud involving cryptocurrency has increased from $2.57 billion in 2022 to $3.94 billion in 2023. These scams aim to attract those who promise to receive lucrative investment returns."
The report also notes that email scammers are turning to cryptocurrency to carry out their scams, and an increasing number of illegal actors are using exchanges and other third parties to collect funds from victims.
