US SEC calls for comment on spot Ethereum ETF
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has opened a window for comments on three Ethereum spot ETF proposals. The agency's notice published on Tuesday stated that the ETF work related to Grayscale Investments, Fidelity, and Bitwise will undergo a three-week comment period to solicit feedback on proposed rule changes.
Although hopes have grown since the agency approved a Bitcoin spot ETF in January, industry analysts are less optimistic about whether regulators will follow suit and launch products tracking Ethereum. After a devastating defeat in a legal dispute with Grayscale, the commission was forced to abandon its opposition to the Bitcoin application, and SEC officials argued that their approval of the Bitcoin ETF did not apply to other tokens.
The stable arrival of a Bitcoin spot ETF has greatly expanded investment in the token. If the agency receives similar approval, ETH is expected to have similar results. However, according to reports, the SEC has been investigating whether ETH should be classified as a security, which would give it a different legal status than Bitcoin.
