Linea: Matter Labs’ application for the ZK trademark violates Ethereum’s development principles and blockchain network conventions
Linea officially stated on the X platform that Matter Labs is the entity behind zkSync and has just applied for the trademark "ZK" as its exclusive intellectual property. Zero-knowledge (widely known as ZK in our industry) is a cryptography research field created by researchers from all over the world. Many people use the zkEVM Layer 2 network to scale Ethereum. Asserting ownership of the cryptographic branch used to develop permissionless, decentralized L2 execution environments using legal frameworks violates Ethereum's development principles and the conventions of our industry. We are here to promote the development of Ethereum, to make the world a better place by providing an anti-censorship network that increases freedom for people. We support @StarkwareLTD's statement and believe that Matter Labs should adhere to their mission and withdraw their trademark application for ZK.
