Report: Nearly $19 Billion Worth of Crypto Stolen Since 2011
According to a report by Crystal Intelligence, nearly $19 billion worth of cryptocurrency has been stolen since 2011. The report highlights 785 cryptocurrency theft incidents, including 220 security vulnerabilities, 345 DeFi hacks, and 220 fraud schemes. The largest theft occurred in 2019, when $2.9 billion related to the PlusToken Ponzi scheme was stolen. Since then, cryptocurrency crime has continued to rise, with a record number of 286 cryptocurrency theft incidents occurring in 2023, with a total value of over $2.3 billion.
