BitMEX's Arthur Hayes recently predicted that Aptos (APT), a first layer blockchain network, will overtake Solana (SOL) within 2-3 years.
В interview for Raoul Paul, Hayes opined that the move would Aptos the second largest layer 1 protocol after Ethereum .
ETH's dominant position is constantly challenged by new and innovative challengers. Solana emerged in March 2020 to address issues like scalability, speed, and high cost that Ethereum was facing. The emergence of SOL thus provided much-needed alternatives at a time when ETH was struggling with congestion issues stemming from the influx of DeFi activity.
Despite this slow progress, Solana eventually gained authority as a protocol. It had a remarkable surge in popularity after the release of BONK , which happened in December 2022 and marked the first serious meme token movement outside of Ethereum. Because it had lower issuance fees compared to ETH for example, other meme coins as well as innovative DeFi platforms also flocked to this platform. However, Solana started to experience its congestion issues, just like what Ethereum went through some time ago.
