The number of Bitcoin holders has remained above 1 million for 13 consecutive months
The milestone of 1 million "wholecoiners" (holders of one or more full bitcoins) will be reached on May 13, 2023. On January 1 of this year, the number of wholecoiner wallet addresses reached an all-time high, with slightly over 1,024,000 wallets holding one or more bitcoins. Despite the price of bitcoin doubling by May 2023, the number of wallet addresses holding one or more bitcoins will still be as high as 1,010,800.
Of the 19.7 million bitcoins in circulation, 2.48 million (worth $152 billion) are held in large centralized exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase. In addition, up to 3 million BTC (worth $80.4 billion, or 17% of total circulating supply) have been "permanently lost."
