On July 15th, it was reported by blockchain investigator ZachXBT that over $35 million of the $305 million stolen from the DMM Bitcoin cryptocurrency exchange in May has been laundered to Huione Guarantee. Blockchain forensics firm Elliptic added that this market is located in Cambodia and is associated with the country's "ruling Hun family". Elliptic stated that the market has traded $11 billion worth of cryptocurrencies from hacker attacks, Ponzi schemes, and other vulnerabilities. ZachXBT suspects that the North Korean hacking group Lazarus may be behind this attack due to similarities in money laundering techniques and off-chain indicators. The funds were subsequently converted to USDT, bridged to Tron, and then transferred to Huione. ZachXBT also shared 538 wallet addresses related to the Lazarus group, Huione, and other wallets associated with the DMM Bitcoin hack.
