A food and alcohol store in a rural part of Germany has implemented facial age estimation from Diebold Nixdorf to prevent the sale of age-restricted products to minors even when the store is run on a self-checkout and unstaffed operation.

Ohio breweries adopt smart vending machines for beer sales

In the US, cities in Ohio have also started deploying smart vending machines that sell alcohol. Land-Grant Brewing Company, a craft brewer based in Columbus, Ohio, and VenGuard have introduced a beer vending machine that employs facial recognition for age checks.

The system takes the customer’s photo and matches it with that on the ID, and the software is capable of identifying fake IDs based on an algorithm derived from those collected in local bars.

In Cleveland, Boxxtech has recently installed a second machine selling alcohol in the Progressive Field that is home to Cleveland Guardians. The Boxx vending machines with IDScan. net technology scans the customer’s ID and then uses facial recognition to check the age.

It was introduced last year with the objective of cutting down on the time that customers take when buying drinks at the Guardian games. As noted by IDScan. net , these machines take about 30 seconds to process alcohol transactions.
