Harris is considering picking Michigan Senator Peters as her running mate
U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris is reportedly considering choosing Michigan Senator Gary Peters as her running mate in 2024. Axios reports that Peters' appeal is mainly driven by unions, and the Michigan Senator's addition could strengthen Harris' support in battleground states. Peters is interested in the position and is currently trying to gain the support of Democratic colleagues to run for Vice President. According to the non-profit political advocacy group Stand With Crypto, Peters is "strongly opposed to cryptocurrency." The non-profit organization notes that Senator Peters co-sponsored the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act in 2023, but also mentioned his support for repealing the SAB-121 Act, which requires banks to record digital assets held by clients as liabilities on their balance sheets.
