Wisconsin Investment Committee Increased Holdings of BlackRock Bitcoin ETF by Nearly 500,000 Shares in Q2 and Sold All GBTC
According to the 13-F filing submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the Wisconsin Investment Board significantly increased its investment in the BlackRock Bitcoin ETF in the second quarter of 2024, adding 447,651 shares and bringing its total holdings to 2,898,051 shares, worth approximately $98.9 million. At the same time, the board decided to liquidate all of its holdings in the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), which were valued at $63.7 million in the previous quarter.
Despite the increase in holdings of the BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust, the investment's US dollar value actually decreased by $228,227 due to the decline in market prices. This caused the board's total US dollar exposure to the spot Bitcoin ETF to decrease by approximately 39% at the end of the quarter.
However, the Wisconsin Investment Board also took action on other cryptocurrency-related assets. They purchased 5,980 shares of Coinbase stock, bringing their total holdings to 98,446 shares, worth nearly $21.9 million. In addition, the board also increased its holdings in Bitcoin miner Marathon Digital, adding 77,996 shares and bringing its total holdings to 115,084 shares, worth approximately $2.3 million.
