Solana applications can 'prioritize real humans' with Wormhole's latest World ID integration
Quick Take Developers building applications on Solana will be able to “prioritize real humans” thanks to Wormhole’s latest World ID integration. Worldcoin Foundation, a main proponent behind the project that assigns World IDs, gave Wormhole contributors a grant to complete the work.
Wormhole has achieved its goal of bringing World ID to Solana SOL -2.19% , according to a Worldcoin WLD +3.79% blog post published Friday.
"Interoperability platform Wormhole ... has successfully completed its efforts to bring World ID to Solana, enabling builders on the Layer 1 blockchain to join the growing number of developers already integrating World ID into their apps and platforms," the post said.
With this latest advancement, Worldcoin said Solana developers will now have an easier time creating applications "that prioritize real humans."
In late June, Wormhole contributors received a grant from the Worldcoin Foundation, a principal supporter of the Worldcoin project. That project centers around the ambitious plan to assign World IDs to humans willing to prove their "personhood" by submitting to an eyeball scan.
The project has attracted additional attention because Tools For Humanity, the main developer behind Worldcoin, was co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
By assigning people digital identifications that prove they are human Worldcoin hopes to foster increased trust on the internet as the IDs will help to distinguish actual people and automated actors like AI-powered chatbots.
"Previously, while it was technically possible to use World ID on other chains, only Ethereum developers had easy access to World ID’s uniqueness and humanness verification," according to Friday's blog post. "This groundbreaking development changes that by allowing Solana-based protocols to seamlessly authenticate peoples' World IDs originally verified on Ethereum."
The Worldcoin project has about 6.6 million signups, according to its website .
