Former FTX CTO Gary Wang Requests No Prison Time for Role in Crypto Exchange's Implosion
Gary Wang, a former FTX CTO and member of Sam Bankman-Fried's inner circle, has requested to avoid prison time for his involvement in the crypto exchange's collapse in 2022. Wang pleaded guilty to four criminal counts in December 2022, including wire fraud and conspiracy to commit securities fraud. While the charges carry a maximum sentence of 50 years, the sentences given to Wang's former colleagues may be a better indicator of his potential sentence. Bankman-Fried received a 25-year sentence, while Ryan Salame received 7.5 years and Caroline Ellison received 2 years. Nishad Singh, who cooperated with prosecutors, was not sentenced to jail time.
