Former FTX executive Ryan Salame receives reduced sentence, expected to be released in March 2031
On December 26, former FTX executive Ryan Salame began serving a seven and a half year sentence in October 2023 for his involvement in FTX's massive crypto fraud case. However, his sentence has been reduced by more than a year and he is expected to be released on March 1, 2031. Salame was sentenced for alleged illegal campaign contributions and operating an unlicensed money transfer business. His sentence reduction may be related to the First Step Act of 2018, which allows prisoners with good behavior to have their sentences reduced. In the same case, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment while other executives like Caroline Ellison have also pleaded guilty and been sentenced. (Business Insider)
