TON Blockchain Stalls As DOGS Airdrop Overwhelms Network
Hype around the DOGS airdrop seems to have been too much for the TON blockchain after the network stopped processing new blocks for more than 7 hours, prompting community members to question the network’s true transactions per second (TPS) rate.
The outage was the result of a “network overload” due to the high number of DOGS transactions, TRON Foundation member Justin said in an Aug. 28 X post . He added that the validators on the network became overwhelmed, causing them to lose consensus. Validators were subsequently called upon to restart at 4:00 UTC to restore consensus.
TON Blockchain Stalled Below Its Theoretical TPS
Although transaction processing has resumed on the TON blockchain, community members are questioning why an outage was triggered with a transaction count far below TON’s claimed theoretical TPS rate of 55,000 transactions.
Mikko Ohtamaa said in an Aug. 28 X post that the TON blockchain “failed” its stress test. He pointed out that the network crashed when it reached 280 TPS. This, according to Ohtamaa, is “far less” than the 55,000 TPS the chain’s development team claimed the network could handle.
